The obedient people of Israel enjoyed God’s blessings just as the disobedient ones faced terrible curses. From Deuteronomy 28:15 we see the marked contrast between the blessings and the curses. Compare Deuteronomy 28:16-19 with Deuteronomy 28:3-6. The curses of Deuteronomy 28:15-44 are the opposite of the blessings of Deuteronomy 28:1-14. What does that tell you about blessing or curses?

There is great danger in forsaking the Lord (Deuteronomy 28:20). Looking at Deuteronomy 28:20-44, mention some of the curses that came into fulfilment at various stages in Israel’s history. Today, we are plagued with many of these curses in many parts of the world and especially in the continent of Africa. Mention some of them. Could these be indicators that we are disobeying God?

We celebrate the love of God. Right! But we must never underrate His hatred for disobedience and the harsh judgement it attracts. The good news is that we can still escape the destruction. Like Israel, we have a choice of either obedience and blessings, or disobedience and destruction. The choice is ours! See also 2 Chronicles 7:14 & James 1:22.
